Responding to the commercial needs of Downtown Everett, MA, we worked with an array of public agencies to plan and design approaches to opening up shopping areas. One project was to create guidelines and designs for the closing off of Everett’s Norwood Street on Saturday afternoons and Sundays and creating a temporary walking, socially-distanced plaza or mall. Related issues considered: control gateways, décor, consideration of waiting distances, social distanced placement of tables and chairs, canopies and umbrellas, healthcare and employment information dispersal, etc.
